Joe Douglas - Engineering Expert

profile
Joe’s working life began with an engineering apprenticeship at Fawcett Preston on Merseyside and was then followed by national service as an instrument fitter on the Victor V Bombers at Cottesmore. After his period of national service, Joe moved south and became a project engineer on plastic extrusion machinery at Loewry Robertson, Bournemouth.

With the break up of the engineering industry pointing to unsettled conditions he went through teacher training at Bolton College of Education (Technical) and spent the next thirty years teaching, ending his career at Salisbury College of Technology, where he was one of the last to switch the lights out in the workshop.

"respected as a leading turner, worldwide"

He has a well equipped workshop, with pride of place going to a Super X3 Mill and a BV20 Lathe, and is working on a Stent Tool and Cutter Grinder and a 3 1/2" Rob Roy.
