engineering for beginners

introduction

An intensive course held over 5 days which offers students an introdution to fitting skills as well as more advanced machining techniques on both the lathe and vertical milling machine. Aimed at those who have already acquired the basic skills from our introduction to engineering courses or those with basic turning/milling skills and who want to further enhance their engineering knowledge. Maximum of 5 Students.

  Using the cold chisel
  Grinding
  Hacksaw
  Heat Treatment
  Measurement, slip gauges and tapers

Turning
  Left hand and two start threads
  Toolmakers buttons
  4 Jaw chuck
  Precision spindles
  Precision tapers

Milling
  Gear Cutting
  Dovetails
  Keyways
  Further work on the rotary table (indexing plates)
  Precision tapers

additional notes & course availability
All materials to cover the course will be provided, however, students are welcome to bring along their own projects if required (within reason) to work on at times within the course. Whilst targeted at those who have already done one or more of the Axminster courses it is also open to anyone who has basic turning and milling skills. It is intended to improve the skill levels rather than parallel the other Axminster Engineering Courses.

There is no upper age limit for students, however the minimum age is 14 years old and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course and must not be left unattended during class hours.
